This is an oil painting class unfortunately the instructor is not able to accommodate other painting mediums.
Fridays: February 7,14,21,28
Description: This class is designed for beginners and intermediate students who are interested in painting with oil paint. The class will consist of demonstrations and individual guidance.
1st Session: Preparing to paint
Students will learn techniques of canvas preparation;drawing and transferring a photo to canvas; mixing paint colors; establishing values;paint application to canvas; utilizing mediums; develop an under-painting focusing on light and shadow; apply color to the canvas, add detail, glazes, and textures to the painting.
2nd Session: Painting a Still Life
Students will start a still life painting; set-up provided by the instructor; render a drawing; transfer the drawing to the canvas; complete the under-painting, begin to apply color, add detail, glazes,and textures to the painting.
3rd Session : Painting a Still Life
Continue painting the Still Life and add finishing touches.
4th Session: Preparing to paint a Seascape painting. (If time permits)
Students will participate in drawing a Seascape,transferring the drawing to the canvas,develop an under-painting focusing on light and shadow;Apply color to the canvas; Add detail, glazes, textures to the painting. Photos will be provided by the instructor.
Oil Painting Supplies:
Oil Paints (Not Water Mixable oil paint): Titanium White (large tube), Cadmium Yellow Light,Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Hue (green), Burnt Sienna, Ivory Black. + any other colors you may have.Suggested brands: Winsor & Newton, Gamblin.
Brushes: #12, #6, #4 bristle flats and Size 7 Script liner. Synthetic brushes: #8 & #10 Bright Synthetic, #12 Round Synthetic. Pastry or hardware brush + any other brushes you may have. (Important)
Canvas: 2 pre-primed canvas panels and 2 pre-stretched canvas panels 11"x 14".
Medium: Odorless mineral spirits, (small jar with lid for mineral spirits). Small jar of Winsor & Newton's Liquin painting medium, (small jar for painting medium).
Palette: Masterson glass palette, paper palette, or other; metal palette knife (2"flexible- not plastic).
Other Supplies needed:
Rags/Paper towels for blotting and cleaning up; Small Sketch book; #4 pencil; notebook paper and folder for notes. Box to carry wet oil painting after class; Easel is provided; rolling cart is helpful in transporting materials if you have one.
